Why so many different names for this product?
Catalytic Lamp is probably the best technical term for how the lamp operates. Fragrance Lamp or Lampe (the french spelling) is the most popular term. Perfume lamp is used by some to discribe this product as well as aroma lamp. Whatever you want to call it, the lamp works! Whether you want to use it to destroy odors, or for the wonderful aromas, this product is unique and enjoyable.
How do they work?
Instead of a flame, fragrance lamps use a form of catalytic combustion to move large volumes of air through the lamps heat chamber. When lit, heat rises rapidly from the lamps catalytic filter.
The heat mixes with cooler air, creates a continuous flow of air through the combustion chamber, a process known as catalytic conversion.
Airborne molecules that cause odors are filtered through the lampe and converted into oxygen.
While this is happening, the lampe emits a light and delightful fragrance. An entire room or house is deodorized and scented in just a few minutes, and the fragrance last for hours. 25 to 40 minutes is sufficient for a 1000 to 1400 cubic foot room.
What are Fragrance/Perfume/Aroma/Catalytic Lamps?
Fragrance lamps destroy odors and certain bacteria in the air while increasing oxygen levels and perfuming your environment. They all use a catalytic burner that reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit to combust a special alcohol based liquid fuel. The burning fuel releases molecules into the air that capture and destroy odors while dispersing essential oils.
What are the benefits of Fragrance/Perfume/Aroma Lamps?
Fragrance Lamps purify the air by destroying odors and air borne bacteria. They increase oxygen levels in the air. The fuels contain essential oils that are made from natural botanical extracts. These oils perfume the air and provide aromatherapy, as well as having insect repelling properties. In addition, they are more efficient and safer than a scented candle to perfume the house. Candles also deplete oxygen from the air. Our fragrance will eliminate more than 60% of air bacteria's.
The Purifying Effects of Catalytic Lamps
Natural ingredients added to catalytic combustion have a very strong purifying action: more than 60% of air bacteria's are eliminated. That explains why it perfumes so much of the air and why you can use it as a disinfectant in a room, or why its action on bad smells (like tobacco smoke or food or pet smells is so efficient..
Fragrance lamps use a catalytic combustion process to clean the air in your home or office. They destroy odors and certain bacteria’s in the air. Through this process, oxygen and a delightful fragrance are emitted into the air.
Despite what the manufacturers instructions say, never fill your lamp more the ½ full. Filling the lamp too full will over saturate the stone and cause it not to stay lit.
Remember that the Lamp works after the flame is extinguished. The flame is to heat the stone and needs to be blown out after about 2 minutes.
It is healthiest for your stone burner to let the lamp “run” at least 30 minutes before you shut it off. It is safe to run your lamp longer if you wish. About 30 minutes of use will fragrance a 1000-1400 cubic foot area. Mini lamps will fragrance a smaller area.
Close or put on the lid to shut off the lamp. If you forget to shut the lamp off, it will shut off automatically when it runs out of fuel. It is actually healthy for your stone and helps to keep your stone running smoothly to let the lamp burn out of fuel by itself.
You can change fragrance without drying the wick. The fragrance will blend until the fuel in the wick is used. Please do not try to mix your own fragrance “recipes” as this will damage the burner. Catalytic fuels contain high grade ingredients that are not available on the store shelf.
Our neutral fragrance is fantastic for cooking odors and can also be use to dilute other fragrances, for a lighter perfuming. In addition, the neutral is good for cleansing your stone burner. To keep your stone burner running smoothly, just burn some neutral (by itself, not mixed) on occasion. It is especially important to clean your mini stones with neutral as the pores are much smaller and can tend to clog much faster.
You must soak a new wick, or one that has dried out, in lamp fragrance for about 30 minutes before relighting the lamp. Make sure the solid lid is on to help absorption!
Do not leave fragrance in your lamp, unused for more than one week. This can clog the burner. Should you experience a clogged burner, or one that won’t stay lit, take the burner out of the lamp, let it dry for 24 hours. Put back in lamp, let soak for 30 minutes then light for 3 minutes or more. Or, is it time for a new burner? How long have you used this burner? Again, it is best to faithfully use the Neutral fragrance on a regular basis to prolong the life of your stone.
Fragrance lamps are terrific for high pollutant environments such as tobacco or fireplace smoke however your lamp burner will not last as long since it has a lot more molecule pollutants to clean out of the air.
Do not put your lamp in a drafty area. It will cause the stone burner to go out.
Do not set your lamp on surfaces such as cloth or wood as the essential oils in the fuel can cause damage. (Without realizing, we often dribble a bit of fuel when filling the lamp and this can seep down the outside without our knowing.) Try a decorative plate under your lamp if you wish to keep it on one of these surfaces.
It is safe to gently wash the outside of most lamps with a MILD soap and water. DO NOT let water inside your lamp or on the burner. If you do get water inside the lamp make sure to let it dry out for 24 hours or more. Water inside your lamp will cause it not to function and water on the burner will destroy it.
